On September 10th, the Embassy of Japan in Solomon Islands, in collaboration with the JICA Solomon Islands Office, held a press tour for local media. This press tour was held to provide an opportunity to cover Japan's development cooperation for the purpose of promoting understanding of Japan's development cooperation among a wide range of people in Solomon Islands. Six journalists and cameramen from four media organizations, including newspapers, television and online media, participated in the tour.
The media group visited a JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) member who is a physical education teacher at St. Nicolas College Primary School, and another member who is working to promote sustainable forestry at the Value Added Timber Association (VATA). At VATA, the media group was briefed by the “Sustainable Forest Resource Management Advisor” dispatched by JICA to promote sustainable forestry in Solomon Islands. The group was also briefed about the grant of portable lumbering machines being implemented as part of the 2023 Grant Assistance for Solomon Islands “Economic and Social Development Programme (Ministry of Forestry and Research)”.
At the Ministry of Fisheries, the group inspected the equipment provided under the FY 2018 grant aid for Solomon Islands “Economic and Social Development Programme (Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources)”. The media group was also briefed by a Japanese expert dispatched for “Sea Cucumber Resource Management Pilot Project” being implemented by the Overseas Fisheries Cooperation Foundation.

In addition to the site visits, a lunch meeting was held to provide an overview of Japan’s grant aid projects, and the event was conducted in a friendly atmosphere throughout.
After this press tour, excellent articles and broadcasts were published by SIBC, The Island Sun, Solomon Business Magazine, and Tavuli News, reporting on the site visits. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude once again to the journalists who participated in this tour. Thank you very much.
