Signing Ceremony for “The Project for Electoral Assistance” in Collaboration with UNDP

On 8th September, an Exchange of Notes (E/N) for the Grant Aid project, “The Project for Electoral Assistance (in collaboration with UNDP),” with a grant limit of JPY 430 million (approximately SBD 22 million), was signed at the Embassy of Japan in Solomon Islands between Ambassador H.E. HIGUCHI Keiichi and Ms Munkhtuya Altangerel, UNDP Resident Representative of the Pacific Multi-Country Office.
Through this cooperation, technical and advisory support will be provided to the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC), together with voter awareness activities for the people of Solomon Islands. These efforts are expected to strengthen the Commission’s capacity to administer and conduct elections, as well as promote inclusive voter participation in preparation for the Joint Elections scheduled for 2028, thereby contributing to the establishment of democratic governance and stable government in Solomon Islands.
At the ceremony, the Ambassador emphasized that free, inclusive and fair elections are indispensable to any stable democracy, and that democratic governance requires constant care and collective effort of all relevant stakeholders. He also expressed his expectation that the project would further strengthen democracy and governance in Solomon Islands, and underscored that Japan remains a steadfast partner of Solomon Islands.
