Handover Ceremony for 50 Footballs
2026/8/7
On 7th August, the Embassy of Japan in Solomon Islands handed over 50 footballs to the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF).
In Solomon Islands, where football is the most popular sport, the donation of these 50 footballs will strengthen children's engagement in football in the country, thereby contributing to the enhancement of the nation's football capabilities.
This donation of 50 footballs was realised following the visit of State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr Horii, to Solomon Islands in June and the Japan-Solomon Islands Summit Meeting in July, with the footballs being donated by the Nara Football Association, of which State Minister Horii serves as President.
Ambassador HIGUCHI mentioned that he was deeply impressed by the enthusiasm seen in Solomon Islands during the FIFA World Cup and the fact that many Solomon Islanders supported the Japanese team. He emphasized his desire, through the provision of these footballs, to support the growth of young players and deliver the joy of football to even more children.
SIFF President Mr Marahare expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of Japan for the donation of the footballs, emphasizing that the donated footballs represent an investment in Solomon Islands' young players and football as a whole. He also highlighted that these footballs will be distributed to various provinces and rural areas to ensure that children across the entire country have the opportunity to play football, learn teamwork, and become players who can represent Solomon Islands.
