Handover Ceremony “The Project for the Improvement of Kilu’ufi Hospital” under Grant Aid Cooperation

On 14th July, a handover ceremony took place at Kilu’ufi Hospital in Auki, Malaita Province for “The Project for the Improvement of Kilu’ufi Hospital”. The ceremony was attended by representatives from Solomon Islands, including Prime Minister, Hon. Matthew Cooper Wale, Minister of Health and Medical Services, Hon. Morris Toiraena, and officials from Malaita Province, as well as representatives from Japan, including Ambassador HIGUCHI, Mr Kawasaki, Resident Representative of the JICA Solomon Islands Office, and Mr Kitano, President of Kitano Construction Co., Ltd., among others.
At the handover ceremony, a new Central Clinical Building and Maternity Ward, along with the medical equipment listed below, were officially handed over.
The facilities and equipment constructed and provided under the project are as follows (total floor area: approximately 2,000 m²):
In his remarks, Ambassador HIGUCHI expressed his sincere appreciation to all those who contributed to the successful implementation of the project. He noted that the hospital also serves as a manifestation of Japan’s strong desire to achieve and maintain “shared win” with Solomon Islands. “In order for this hospital to serve the needs of patients for a long time to come, the Solomon Islands government is required to take ownership and also it requires that the hospital retains its functionality for a long tie and is adequately staffed with doctors, nurses, mid-wives, kitchen staff cleaning staff, and so on”, he emphasized.
Minister of Health and Medical Services, Hon. Morris Toiraena expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan and the parties involved in the construction of the facilities and emphasized that “this project is an important investment in the future of healthcare in Malaita Province.”
The project is expected to strengthen diagnostic and treatment functions and improve the quality of healthcare services provided throughout Malaita Province.

- Emergency Medicine & General Outpatient Services: Consultation rooms; Treatment rooms, Observation beds, Pharmacy.
- Medical Imaging: General X-Ray room; Ultrasound room.
- Operating Theatre Suite: 2 Operating, OT hall with Scrub area and CSST.
- Delivery Room & Special Care Nursery (SCN): Delivery room; Labour, Post-natal day beds.
- Others: Electricity, Mechanical Plumbing.
