Two Years of Heartfelt Connection: JICA Volunteers Mr Nakata and Mr Ebina Complete Their Mission

On 8th May, two Japan JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) visited Ambassador HIGUCHI to report the successful completion of their mission. This week, they will officially conclude their two-year assignments and depart for home.

Mr Nakata worked at the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO). In Solomon Islands, a nation on the frontline of climate change and natural disasters, he dedicated himself to the critical task of strengthening national disaster preparedness. His professional expertise, combined with his deep passion for the country, has significantly contributed to the safety and "peace of mind" of the local community.

Mr Ebina worked as a PC Instructor at Don Bosco Technical Institute, where his classes were always filled with energy and smiles. By significantly improving the PC skills and the digital literacy of his students, he has provided them with the IT skills necessary to serve as a powerful tool in carving out their own successful futures.

During their conversation with the Ambassador, the two volunteers shared their reflections on the importance of building genuine, personal connections with the local people. They also discussed the importance of prioritizing mental well-being and self-care—finding one’s own space to relax—while working in a foreign and unfamiliar environment.

Ambassador HIGUCHI expressed his highest praise and sincere gratitude for their achievements, noting their tireless dedication and their commitment to "working side-by-side" alongside the people of Solomon Islands through every challenge.

Mr Nakata and Mr Ebina, thank you for your incredible hard work over the past two years in a land so different from home. The irreplaceable experiences you have gained in Solomon Islands will undoubtedly continue to shine as you move forward into your next chapters in Japan.

We wish you the very best!
