On 22nd April, the Embassy of Japan held an information session on Japanese culture and Japanese Government (MEXT :Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship Program for Form 7 students at King George VI National High School.

During the information session, Japanese culture was introduced through videos and photographs. In addition, the 5 types of the MEXT Scholarship Program offered in Solomon Islands were explained, including the features of each program, application methods, and the selection process.

In particular, strong interest was shown in the College of Technology (KOSEN) Scholarship, which allows students to study technology and engineering in Japan, as well as the Specialized Training College Scholarship, which enables students to acquire practical skills in areas such as technology, business, health and nutrition, education, and culture.

When students were informed that the application period would begin that afternoon, they appeared surprised, and during the final Q&A session, many questions were raised regarding the submission attachments required.

The presenter explained that studying in Japan could open pathways to employment in Japan, as well as opportunities to contribute to society by working in government institutions, universities, and other organizations after returning to Solomon Islands, like former MEXT scholars.

We hope that the session will encourage students to explore the future academic and career opportunities related to Japan.
