Signing Ceremony for “The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)”
2025/7/29

On 29th July, Japanese Ambassador H.E. Mr. HIGUCHI Keiichi and Hon. Peter Shanel AGOVAKA, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade signed and exchanged notes for “the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship” ( project up to one hundred and forty-nine million yen ). At the same time, a Grant Agreement (G/A) was also signed between JICA and the Minister.
In this program, young Solomon Islands government officials will study at Japanese graduate schools to obtain degrees. This is expected to contribute to human resource development and institutional building within government agencies, and to enable them to demonstrate leadership and play active roles at the core of the government in the future. Beyond this, it's also anticipated that they will build networks with Japanese government officials and others in Japan, further strengthening the friendly relations between Japan and Solomon Islands. At the ceremony, Minister Agovaka expressed his expectations for human resource development within Solomon Islands' administrative bodies and his gratitude towards Japan.
It's worth noting that the "Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship" is a program that started last year, and this year marks the recruitment of its second cohort. The first cohort is expected to travel to Japan in July of this year to diligently pursue their studies.
This exchange ceremony is also introduced on the following website of Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
