The "2025 Nominations for "Hamaguchi Award" and the "Hamaguchi Essay Contest 2025 for High School Students" are now open for applications.

The "Hamaguchi Award" was established in 2016 with the aim of recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to disaster prevention and reduction efforts against tsunamis, storm surges, and other related disasters, and to promote a wide range of initiatives in this field. Designating November 5 as "World Tsunami Awareness Day" by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2015, the award was established. This year marks the 10th edition of the award.
Application deadline is 30th May, 2025.
 
The Hamaguchi Essay Contest 2025 for High School Students is newly introduced this year to further promote awareness and dissemination of coastal disaster prevention technologies, targeting high school students from both domestic and international backgrounds who will be the next generation leaders.
Application deadline is 14th August, 2025.
