Emperor's Birthday Reception 2024

On 22 February, the Emperor's Birthday Reception was hosted by Ambassador Yoshiaki Miwa at the Solomon Kitano Mendana Hotel to celebrate the Emperor's birthday and was attended by about 100 people including Hon. John Patteson Oti, Speaker of National Parliament, Hon. Jeremiah Manele, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr. Jimmy Rodgers, Secretary to the Prime Minister and representatives from various sectors of the Solomon Islands.
Following the national anthems of Japan and Solomon Islands and the opening remarks of Minister Manele, Ambassador Miwa congratulated His Majesty the Emperor on the occasion of his 64th birthday and expressed his intention to strengthen the cooperate with Solomon Islands, which is blessed with an abundance of rich nature and natural resources, but also faces the challenge of sustainable development, by utilising Japan's strengths and characteristics.
The reception also featured presentations by two experts with knowledge and experience of Japan, Ms. Dorothy Wickham, an experienced journalist who visited Japan last year, and Dr Lindon Havimana of Solomon National University, who completed his PhD in Japan, which were well received by those present. The reception was also an opportunity for attendee to enjoy Japanese food and sake.
The Embassy of Japan in Solomon Islands will build on the success of this reception to further develop bilateral relations.
