The handover ceremony for the Upgraded Kukum Highway (Phase 2)

On October 5th, 2023, the handover ceremony for “The Project for Upgrading of the Kukum Highway Phase 2” under Grant Aid Project of Japanese government was held near Honiara International Airport, and attended by Prime Minister, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Development, Hon. Manasseh Maelanga, Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, Hon. Lanelle Tanangada, Minister of Mines, Energy, and Rural Electrification, Hon. Bradley Tovosia, Minister of Commerce, Industry, Labour & Immigration, Hon. Frederick Kologeto, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Mr. Stephen Maesiola, Japanese Ambassador, His excellency MIWA Yoshiaki, Resident Representative of JICA, Mr. WATANABE Takeshi, General Manager of Kitano Construction Corporation, Mr. KATAGAMI Kiyoshi, Director and Managing Executive Officer, CTI International engineering Co., Ltd., Mr. WATANABE Ryohei.
 
Japanese Ambassador, MIWA Yoshiaki said that this project is, together with the Honiara International Airport Improvement Project completed in March this year, a major contribution to the Pacific Games, and both projects are expected to foster the development of Honiara.
 
Prime Minister, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare expressed his appreciation for Japanese support and mentioned about maintenance management of the road. He called for people to keep the road clean and drive safely in his remarks.  
 
The ceremony was followed by presentations of souvenirs, a declaration of handover and ribbon cutting. The ceremony was performed in a friendly atmosphere from beginning to end.
