Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for 2024 (Research Students) – NOW OPEN

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in graduate courses at Japanese universities as Research Students (either regular students or non-regular students) under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program 2024.

This scholarship is available to all eligible aspiring Solomon Islanders who wish to pursue graduate studies at a Japanese University as a Research Student.

1. Application Guideline
Applicants can collect hard copies from the Embassy of Japan, Point Cruz Arcade or access online from the Embassy’s Website.

2. Qualifications
Applicants must be a Solomon Islander under 35 years of age as of April 1st, 2024 (i.e. born on or after April 2nd, 1989) and have completed at least 16 years of education and received a degree equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. If the applicant has not yet graduated, submit a certificate of prospective graduation from the university.

3. Fields of Study
Applicants should apply for a field of study they majored in at university or its related field. Moreover, the fields of study must be subjects which applicants will be able to study and research in graduate courses at Japanese universities.

4. Terms of Scholarship
Two years from April 2024 to March 2026 (extendable for masters/doctoral courses).
The term will be one and half year for students who choose October session.

5. Language
Applicant must be willing to learn the Japanese language, be interested in Japan and enthusiastic about deepening his/her understanding of Japan after arrival there.

6. Application
All applicants must submit their completed application form with the required documents to the Embassy of Japan by Wednesday 31st May 2023, 4pm. All submitted documents will not be returned.
