A media tour

On August 23, 2023, the Japanese Embassy in the Solomon Islands conducted a media tour of three development cooperation sites funded by Japan. The tour, led by Ambassador MIWA Yoshiaki, aimed to gain a better understanding of Japanese development cooperation with the people of the Solomon Islands. The three project sites visited were the National Referral Hospital (NRH), Ilia Community High School, and Hells Point EOD-RSIPF base.
In 2020 the Government of Japan donated approximately SBD$18,000,000 under “THE Economic and Social Development Programs for the Health Sector “of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan aiming to improve public health services and strengthen basic infrastructure of Solomon Islands. Ilia School received SBD$648,035.00 under “The Project Construction of Classroom Building for Ilia Community High School” under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) in 2022 for its classroom building. The Government of Japan donated SBD 500,000 to EOD team of RSIPF in March 2022. In May 2023, the Japanese government signed an exchange note with the Solomon Islands government for funding assistance worth around SBD7 million to support the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional services in acquiring a landing vessel for RSIPF's UXO disposal activities.
